Choosing a city bike

A good city bike goes unnoticed: it pulls away easily at the lights, stays clean in the rain and needs little maintenance. Brussels cobbles and tram tracks also call for good tyres.

High or low frame?

A low frame makes getting on and off easier, especially in work clothes or with a child seat. A high frame is slightly stiffer and lighter.

Derailleur or hub?

An internal hub needs little maintenance and lets you change gear at a standstill. A derailleur offers more gears for steep climbs.

What really matters

Comfort: saddle, position and tyres suited to cobbles.
Equipment: mudguards, rack, kickstand and built-in lights.
Maintenance: a protected drivetrain stays clean longer.
Lock: plan for a certified lock to park on the street.

What budget should you plan?

In this category our bikes range from about €699 to €3,460, depending on brand, frame and equipment. Bike leasing and financing let you spread the cost.
