Bike leasing through your employer?
Just like for a company car, leasing or renting a company bike is a long-term rental contract. If you opt for this solution through your employer, three parties are involved: the bike supplier, your employer, and yourself.
Your employer rents the bike directly from the supplier or through a leasing company. The contract is for a fixed term. During this period, you benefit, as an employee, from a bike made available to you. The rental amount is deducted from your gross salary or your contribution to social benefits. At the end of the contract, you return the bike to the supplier. You can then choose a new one or buy the current bike by paying a residual value.
Did you know, by the way, that city bikes , electric bikes and even fast electric-assist bikes are eligible for bike rental ? And that you can also use them privately without limit ?
The procedure for requesting a quote varies by leasing companies, but you can generally follow these steps :
- You choose your bike. No worries, at Komut, we are here to help you if you haven't found the ideal bike yet.
- We prepare a quote in-store. The leasing company can then review it and make a rental proposal.
- The rental proposal is approved by your employer.
- You can pick up your bike at your preferred Komut store.
The cost of your bike rental depends on several factors, such as the nature of the contract and the type of bike chosen. You can easily obtain a quote. Komut works closely with various partners specialised in bike leasing.
As you pay for your bike leasing with a small part of your gross salary monthly or via a pay-as-you-go plan , your new bike costs much less than if you bought it yourself.
If you replace your company car with a company bike (electric), the expense is fully tax-deductible. This applies to both a purchased bike and a rented bike. Furthermore, this rule also applies to all accessories, spare parts, and maintenance costs.
Don't forget to discuss with your employer the possibility of a tax-exempt bike allowance . Be aware that your employer is not obliged to pay you this allowance, but it is a tax-efficient way for them to reward you. The exempt portion is fixed; any excess is taxable.
As stated, you can also use the bike for private purposes without restriction. Unlike a company car, you do not pay any BIK (benefit in kind) for the miles travelled during your free time.
