Choosing a speed pedelec

In Belgium, a speed pedelec is a class P moped: it requires a licence (AM, included in a B licence), a number plate, third-party liability insurance and a suitable helmet. In return, it covers long distances quickly.

For which trips?

A speed pedelec comes into its own on suburban and intercity trips. In the city centre, traffic and 30 km/h zones limit the benefit of speed.

Paperwork

We help you with the certificate of conformity, registration and insurance, and advise you on the mandatory helmet and equipment.

What really matters

Power and battery: a large battery, as speed increases consumption.
Braking: powerful brakes suited to 45 km/h.
Equipment: mirror, horn, approved lights and plate holder.
Comfort: suspension and position for long distances.

What budget should you plan?

Yes. In Belgium you need at least an AM licence, which is included in a B licence. The speed pedelec must also be registered and insured, and the rider must wear a suitable helmet.

The Belgian highway code sets specific rules inside and outside built-up areas. Our advisers explain them when you collect the bike.

Yes. Our three stores welcome you without an appointment from Tuesday to Saturday. To make sure the model and size you want are available, you can book a test ride online.

Yes. We work with the main bike leasing providers for employees, self-employed people and companies. We also offer financing over several months.

Our workshops in Uccle, Saint-Gilles and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre handle servicing and repairs, with priority for bikes bought at KOMUT.
