Choosing a longtail for two children

To carry two children, a longtail must be stable when stopped, powerful when pulling away and well equipped: wide centre stand, grab bars, footrests and wheel guards.

Seats or bench?

Child seats suit the youngest. From around four or five, a bench with grab bars gives more freedom. Most longtails take both.

Longtail or cargo bike?

A longtail is narrower and easier to park. A front-loader keeps the children in sight and under a cover. Try both formats back to back in store.

What really matters

Number of passengers: one or two children, seats or bench, grab bars and footrests.
Adjustability: a frame that adjusts to several riders if the bike is shared within the family.
Motor and battery: strong assistance for uphill starts with a load, and a range that suits your trips.
Storage: some models, such as the Tern GSD and HSD, can be stored upright.
Accessories: panniers, wheel guards, rain cover or baby seat depending on your needs.

What budget should you plan?

In this category our bikes range from about €3,099 to €8,999, depending on brand, frame and equipment. Bike leasing and financing let you spread the cost.
