Choosing a bike for a teenager

In the teenage years, the bike becomes independent transport. It should be light, reliable and well equipped for safe city riding, and keep up with your child’s growth.

Teen or adult bike?

A 26-inch bike designed for young riders is lighter and better proportioned than a small adult bike. Once the teen has grown enough, a small adult frame takes over.

For the school run

Add mudguards, lights, a rack and a good lock for daily use in town.

What really matters

Size before age: the child should reach the ground while seated; inseam matters more than age.
Weight: a light bike is easier to control and makes riding fun.
Brakes: levers sized for small hands.
Safety: helmet, lights and bell for riding in town.

What budget should you plan?

In this category our bikes range from about €739 to €949, depending on brand, frame and equipment. A light, well-made bike lasts for years and can be handed down from one child to the next.
