Riese & Müller has unveiled the Multicharger4, the fourth generation of its family longtail, for model year 2027. More load capacity, a single lower frame, a bigger battery. But should you wait for it, or go for a Multicharger3 right now?

What changes with the Multicharger4
The Multicharger4 keeps the idea behind the Multicharger3's success: a longtail that rides like a regular bike, at around 1.9 m long. Here is what Riese & Müller has announced for this new generation.
More load capacity
Maximum total weight rises from 160 to 200 kg, and the rear rack takes 80 kg instead of 65 kg. Enough for an older child, or even an adult, with the right accessories.
One frame, lower
No more choosing between the classic and Mixte frames: the Multicharger4 only comes with an even lower step-through frame. The head tube and motor mount are now cast, for more stiffness.
More range
The 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery becomes the standard, with a dual-battery option up to 1,600 Wh. An entry-level 540 Wh version has also been announced.
Three Bosch motors
Performance Line PX for the Family version, Cargo Line for the load-focused versions, and Performance Line Speed for the 45 km/h models.
Six versions
Family (Shimano Nexus 5-speed), Touring (Shimano CUES), Vario (Enviolo), Automatic (Enviolo with automatic shifting), Vario HS and Rohloff HS for 45 km/h.
Details designed for families
Waterproof fabric cushions, a safety bar that opens to act as a step for children, bolted-on guards, an improved double kickstand, an adjustable stem with smartphone mount and an RX chip as standard.

Should you wait for the Multicharger4?
It all depends on your timing and what you carry. The Multicharger4 brings real improvements, but the Multicharger3 remains an excellent longtail, available right away.
Wait for the Multicharger4 if…
- you want to carry an older child or an adult on the back (80 kg);
- you want long range for long distances;
- you don't need the bike before spring 2027.
Choose a Multicharger3 now if…
- you need the bike for autumn and winter;
- your children are young: 65 kg on the rack is enough;
- you want to try it, have it set up and ride away on a proven model.

Yes, in Vario HS and Rohloff HS versions, with the Bosch Performance Line Speed motor. Like any speed pedelec in Belgium, it must be registered and insured, with a helmet and a driving licence.
